A unified BFKL and GLAP description of F 2 data

چکیده
We argue that the use of the universal unintegrated gluon distribution and the k T (or high energy) factorization theorem provides the natural framework for describing observ-ables at small x. We introduce a coupled pair of evolution equations for the unintegrated gluon distribution and the sea quark distribution which incorporate both the resummed leading ln(1/x) BFKL contributions and the resummed leading ln(Q 2) GLAP contributions. We solve these unified equations in the perturbative QCD domain using simple parametic forms of the nonperturbative part of the integrated distributions. With only two (physically motivated) input parameters we find that this k T factorization approach gives an excellent description of the measurements of F 2 (x, Q 2) at HERA. In this way the unified evolution equations allow us to determine the gluon and sea quark distributions and, moreover, to see the x domain where the resummed ln(1/x) effects become significant. We use k T factorization to predict the longitudinal structure function F L (x, Q 2) and the charm component of F 2 (x, Q 2).

We give a brief overview of the perturbative QCD description of the proton deep-inelastic structure function F 2 (x, Q 2) at small x. We discuss GLAP and BFKL approaches, and then we review progress towards a more unified treatment. متن کاملThe description of F 2 at small x incorporating angular ordering
We study the perturbative QCD description of the HERA measurements of F 2 (x, Q 2) using a gluon distribution that is obtained from an evolution incorporating angular ordering of the gluon emissions, and which embodies both GLAP and BFKL dynamics. We compare the predictions with recent HERA data for F 2. We present estimates of the charm component F c 2 (x, Q 2) and of F L (x, Q 2).
متن کاملAll order Running Coupling BFKL Evolution from GLAP (and vice-versa)
We present a systematic formalism for the derivation of the kernel of the BFKL equation from that of the GLAP equation and conversely to any given order, with full inclusion of the running of the coupling. The running coupling is treated as an operator, reducing the inclusion of running coupling effects and their factorization to a purely algebraic problem. We show how the GLAP anomalous dimens...
متن کاملTransverse energy flow at HERA
We calculate the transverse energy flow accompanying small x deepinelastic events and compare with recent data obtained at HERA. In the central region between the current jet and the remnants of the proton we find that BFKL leading ln(1/x) dynamics gives a distinctively large transverse energy distribution, in approximate agreement with recent data. The structure function F2(x,Q ) for deep-inel...
متن کاملHow Resummation Depresses the Gluon at Small x
We summarize recent progress in the resummation of perturbative evolution at small x. We show that the problem of incorporating BFKL small x logs in GLAP evolution is now completely solved, and that the main effect of small x resummation is to reduce the growth of the gluon at small x in the HERA and LHC regions.
